Jean served with the FANY in the second world war, she worked at Manchester University and was secretary to professor Blackett, who worked with Bernard Lovell who set up Joderell Bank. She was an artist who was accepted for but not hung in the RA. She bought a house in the Dordogne, France just outside the village of St. Severin. On the death of her husband Rex, she sold Hazelwood, Hawley Lane Hale Cheshire and moved to a new build, Hall House, Plumpton, Sussex to be nearer to her daughter Alison. Patricia by this time was in Australia.
